Polycarbonate SHEET FAQ’S
Providing valuable information and insights about Polycarbonate sheets, addressing common queries and concerns ensuring you have all the information you need for your project.
What are the key features of polycarbonate sheets?
- High impact resistance
- UV protection
- Lightweight
- Excellent optical clarity
- Temperature resistance
- Flexibility
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLYCARBONATE AND ACRYLIC?
Both acrylic and polycarbonate, though similar in transparency and suitability for optical applications like roofing and windows, differ significantly in impact resistance. Acrylic surpasses glass with 17 times greater impact resistance, while polycarbonate excels with an impressive 250 times greater resistance.
Polycarbonate, offering more robust resistance, is ideal for demanding applications such as windows requiring additional support. Despite its higher impact resistance, acrylic stands out as a more cost-effective option than polycarbonate and retains its pristine appearance even when heated and moulded.
How do polycarbonate sheets compare to glass?
Polycarbonate sheets are lighter and more impact-resistant than glass. They also offer better insulation properties and are less prone to shattering. However, glass generally has better optical clarity.
Can polycarbonate sheets be cut to size?
Yes, polycarbonate sheets can be easily cut using common tools such as a circular saw or a fine-toothed handsaw. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for cutting and installation.
Are polycarbonate sheets suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, polycarbonate sheets are often used outdoors due to their durability and resistance to UV radiation. They are commonly used in roofing, skylights, and other applications where exposure to the elements is a factor.
Are polycarbonate sheets fire-resistant?
While polycarbonate sheets are not completely fireproof, they have good fire-resistant properties. They are self-extinguishing and will not contribute significantly to the spread of flames.
